The clerk or any clerk's employee that retires under the Clerks of Court Retirement program may elect to continue insurance coverage obtained under La. R.S. 13:783(F) and the costs may be paid in the same manner as if they were still employed. Any insurance costs paid by the clerk or the clerk's employee may be deducted directly from their salaries if so authorized. The clerk shall remit these contributions to the clerk's insurance fund or directly to any insurance company with which the clerk has contracted separately.
Any retiree who is covered under Medicare receives health insurance benefits through the Insurance Trust as a secondary carrier. This means that when a Medicare retiree files a claim with LCCIT Member Services a Medicare EOB (Explanations of Benefits) must accompany the claim.
Any active member who is eligible for Medicare, but is still working in the Clerks' office, has primary health care coverage through the Insurance Trust and Medicare as their secondary coverage. When filing with Medicare, a copy of the EOB from LCCIT Member Services must accompany the claim form.
Please give each doctor you are seeing a copy of your group health card, Medicare card or dental information when you have a visit. It is customary for the receptionist to ask for a copy of all insurance cards because it contains valuable phone numbers and other information pertinent to the provider. Dental and Life Insurance information can be obtained at www.metlife.com.
It is necessary for a Medicare primary retiree to visit physicians who are contracted through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana for the Louisiana Clerks of Court Association PPO or POS. If you do not know if your physician is approved please contact their office or you may call (800) 763-4868 to inquire about a particular doctor.
One of the benefits of the Clerks of Court Insurance Program to retirees is the prescription drug program. LCCIT Member Services will handle any questions regarding prescription drug problems or refer the member to the Script Care, LTD toll free number (800) 880-9988.
If a retiree dies and you are named beneficiary of their life insurance benefits, please contact the
Insurance Trust Department or
Retirement
Department at (800) 256-6660 as soon as possible. We will need a copy of the death certificate and other appropriate forms to file your claim. The Retirement Department can also discuss the alternatives available in regard to the active members' retirement account.
